Choose a word from a book (dictionary, novel, catalogue, magazine, journal) and think of a small item(s) that describe or define it. Arrange the item(s)around the word to create the a focal point and interesting composition. We will further emphasize the word in PS with digital Depth of Field (blurring effect)
Add Depth of Field 1. Open file in PS 2. Copy layer (Cmd + J) 3. Add layer mask to top layer (Japanese flag) 4. Make sure layer mask is selected (not picture), choose Gradient tool 5. Select radial or linear gradient from top menu 6. Click on gradient from top menu > Basic Folder > white to transparent (grey & white checkerboard) 7. Drag the squares on top of the gradient bar to the opposite end, reversing the color and gradient 7. Click on Color box, make it black > OK 8. Click the eye off of top layer 9. Click on bottom layer > Filter > Gaussian Blur > Radial slider around 20 px 10.Click eye back on top layer 11. On image, drag the line outward from the word so that the word is in focus and the background gradually becomes blurred.
Assignment: Shoot 4 images for three (3) different words, submit all photos in Google classroom
