College 2 D Animation
Animation is not only Saturday morning cartoons and Disney movies, but a cutting edge industry that it is all around us. We are constantly exposed to animation, whether we are aware of it or not. From motion graphics on the web, immersive video game experiences, to the elaborate full length movies we enjoy in the theater, we are surrounded by the highly creative medium of animation.
Animation is possible because of persistence of vision. This is an optical illusion whereby multiple discrete images blend into a single image in the human mind. Peter Mark Roget discovered that images were retained by the retina of the human eye for fractions of a second before being replaced by the succeeding ones. Because of this discovery the first inklings of animation or moving pictures had begun. He created the thaumatrope in 1825, which when spun the two complimentary images appear to merge creating the very first "motion picture".
